How will my donation
be used?
Your donation through UFF will be forwarded to the organization
you selected. All funds, less PayPal fees if applicable, will be sent
to the chosen organization. UFF retains none of the donated funds.
How do I donate money to organizations through UFF?
Go to our Donate page and select
the organization you wish to donate funds to there. You will be taken
to a PayPal screen to complete the donation process.
What is PayPal, and
how can I use it to make online donations?
Most widely recognized as a payment option for eBay online auction users, PayPal
can be used to send and receive payments through the Internet, serving as the
middleman between you and any organization. Once you sign up for PayPal, you
can send money to anyone who has an email address using your credit card, debit
card or bank account. The recipient will be notified by email anytime you have
sent a payment. Please note that PayPal is a third-party provider, a separate
organization not in any way affiliated with the United Federation of Fans.
Is there a fee for
donors to user PayPal?
No. PayPal is free to givers or anyone else who uses this service to send money.
How can I open an
account with PayPal?
Opening
a PayPal account is free and easy.
I live outside the
United States; can I still contribute money through UFF?
Yes, since the UFF Donation System accepts donations through
PayPal, we are able to accept contributions from many different countries
(including the United States, Canada, Germany, Japan, China, United Kingdom,
Denmark, and others). PayPal will handle the currency conversion on your
behalf. Additional information regarding currency conversion will be
provided by PayPal after you have reached step 3 in the donation process.
Is my donation tax-deductible?
Yes. Making donations through PayPal is the same as writing
a check, and you may deduct the amount of the gift to the fullest extent
allowed by law. Once UFF receives your donation, we will process your
gift and send you a standard statement acknowledging your gift. Additionally,
individual donors and amounts will be listed when funds are forwarded
to the organizations.
NOTE: This FAQ is
only applicable to people filing United States tax returns which qualify
for itemized deductions. Donors from outside the United States will
need to check their country's individual tax regulations regarding
deductions.
How will my contribution
be recognized?
A list of donors
is posted on the UFF site
and at StarTrek.com.
If you prefer that your name not be added to the list of donors, please
let us know. Additionally, you will receive a letter via snail mail
from UFF acknowledging your donation.
What fees will be
deducted from my donation?
No fees are assessed
by UFF, however, fees are assessed from each donation by PayPal (varying
based on the specific nature of the donation, and any currency conversion
that must occur). For example, this means that if you were to use PayPal
to donate $100 to an organization, PayPal would retain $3.20 before forwarding
$96.80 to the organization. Visit PayPal for
information about their fee assessments.
